2012 - Bring it on!

2011 was an incredibly challenging and rewarding year for me and for Songbird Designs.

Songbird Designs had an incredible growth year with thanks to you all, visiting me at the markets and also my lovely retailers both old and new.

In the same breath, as Songbird Designs is not my full time gig (I WISH), the year in reflection for my main full time job has been incredibly busy and at times very stressful.

I don't really do 'resolutions' or rather I never really stick to them but I have decided that this year I would have just one. For me, 2012 is going to be a year of new beginnings. What that means in different parts of my life may be different, I don't know what all of them might end up being. But I am going to try to see my world (perhaps THE world but my world in the first instance) with new eyes, fresh eyes, positive eyes open to opportunities. And I am going to go after them.

Life is what you make it, and my revelation, rather than resolution, is to make it the life I want it to be and not let things 'happen'.

Simple? I think yes.
Easy to stick to? I am not sure, but I am going to try.

Its been a long time between drinks.... or posts as the case maybe..

This weekend is the Devonport Craft Market. This month there are over 70 stalls (good weather dependent!) and loads of giveaways on offer.

Songbird has donated x2 $25 vouchers to the prize draw. All you need to do is purchase something from someone at the market and you will receive a prize draw entry form. At the end of the market the prizes will be drawn. There are over 20 prizes on offer! Brilliant.

Craft 2.0 - A whirlwind trip

Craft 2.0 was on Saturday. This is my story.

I had a hectic week at work finishing up with being on an amazing but intense course for the last two days of the week. This meant I had to be finished packing and making for Craft 2.0 by Wednesday - I made it but it was full on.

I headed straight from my course, which was based north of Auckland, and headed to the airport. Thank goodness I was a little early and I was able to sit down and breathe and have a wine. I thought that was a nice start to my trip.

I arrived into Wellington to a lovely clear but very cool night - my winter coat really came into its own!!

I met up with Cat who had arrived earlier in the day, and we had a gossip and then hit the hay ready for the next day.

Setting up in the morning is a bit of a blur - coffee came about 45 minutes into the set up courtesy of our lovely stall assistant and my friend Leyla.

Once the doors open we were all go. It was a busy day for us, but having someone to help us on our stall meant we could have a bit of a wander and a look around. Last Craft 2.0 I couldn't leave my stall for even a second so it was nice to have the chance.

There were some amazing stalls - I came away with a colouring book from Lovely Sweet William and some small photographic images from Susannah Tucker and a lovely pillow for my son from Tea Pea. I could have bought so much more and I still might!

The plaited necklaces from Gottahave were so nearly in my clutches - They are my next purchase for sure.

The end of the day came pretty quickly and we packed up ready to make my 5pm flight.

I wish I had been able to take more time in Wellington - its a city I find really interesting. Next time I have promised myself a slow journey instead of a whirlwind one.

The space(s) - finally

I said a couple of weeks ago that I would bring you some photos of my new craft space. Well it took me more than 24 hours but finally I have finished - well nearly.

To begin the story I will head back to June of 2009, when I proudly posted these photos of my 'new' craft space.

This space NEVER worked - for one I had too much 'stuff' and secondly I couldn't open the doors of the cupboards.. Imagine both flat spaces with about 1/2 metre piled on top...

Since June 2009 this space as been a constant battle. I couldn't work in it as it was just outside my son's door and the only chance i got to 'work' was when he was asleep.....

So finally - 2 years later. We made a plan - exit the space and go for something else. Better storage and to actually acknowledge that I end up making in the lounge where it is warm...

The second acknowledgement was that I actually need more room.

Now see the new space - quite a different idea. This space is now for functional and nice looking storage. In this idea, each area of work has its own space for storage.

These 'vintage' looking jars work well - they were only about $2 pop. They hold all of my ribbons etc

And this last one I wasn't sure I wanted to share - basically it is in the garage - home to the Dirtbike (NOT MINE) - I take up the cupboards you can see PLUS one other of the vertical ones (which houses all of my market props. This is the functional rather than good looking part of the space!

So that is the new space. Truly it took me a whole weekend to get it semi-functional and 2 weeks to finish it...

On a much more organised note, I am packed and ready to go bar a couple of minor things for my road trip (or air trip) to Wellington for Craft 2.0 this weekend. I am really excited for it. I fly back Saturday night ready for the Devonport Craft Market on Sunday! and then I back it up by having a stall at the Target Road Primary Ladies night on Friday night.... MAD I am.

Hope to see you at one of these lovely events - I will make sure I document my trip to Welly - Craft 2.0 is always chocca full of amazing crafters, designers and artists...

Lucky Me!

I was VERY fortunate and lucky to have won a giveaway last week.

I am now the proud owner of a lovely bag made from vintage fabric, crafted by the wonderful Joanna from A Little Minx. It is beautifully crafted and the fabric is divine. I couldn't be more thrilled.

I am very excited as today some of my Songbird Goodies arrived at a lovely, stylish boutique in Wellington. Emma.

The store is home to the designs of Emma Wallace and boy are they amazing designs. My bank account is very lucky that this store is in Wellington....

I am so pleased to stock some things in Emma - a little something to accessorise your Emma outfit with. Emma is also stocking a range of my cards. YAY.

Time really flies

So much has happened since I last posted.

Our world changed on February 22nd, when a terrible quake hit Christchurch with devastating consequences.

I was worried for a number of people, who I don't know well, or haven't known for long, but who I think of as friends, and who were stuck in the middle of all of that..
< Some people were not that lucky. My thoughts remain with their families and friends.

In the wake of the first quake in September 2010, I worked with a number of others to fundraise to provide some relief for those people hit the worst. It was a significant amount of work, but with amazing results ($4420 raised over 6 weeks). This time I was not in a position to be able to give as much time, but I decided I could do my bit by donating the proceeds of my store sales.

This combined with a special fundraising stall at my work (just a side note - my workplace raised $36,000 through all of our fundraising activities on March 4th), Songbird managed to raise a total of $455.50, which I was proud to donate today to the Red Cross.

With the payment goes my best wishes and hope that it brings someone in Christchurch some relief.

Note: My thoughts are also with the people of Japan, and their families who are all over the world. It is a sad and tragic event that has happened there.

Note 2: Feltaid is back open and running again with all proceeds going towards Christchurch Earthquake Relief. There are some lovely items in the store - go there NOW!

The necklace and the bicycle

This week I sent some Songbird items to FishBike in Napier. Fishbike is a cycle rental company located on the beautiful cycleway in Napier.

The items I sent were all Art Deco inspired as this week it is Art Deco week in Napier. The city gets dressed up in its Art Deco gear and re-lives the vibe of 1930's life. It is one of my favourite periods of the 20th century defined by its architecture, furniture and fashion.

If you are down that way this weekend, do that the opportunity to check Fishbike out, perhaps take a ride and check out the beautiful views and maybe check out my little contribution to Art Deco memories.

A belated Happy New Year

A Belated Happy New Year to you all.

With a totally crazy busy Christmas season behind us, Songbird has taken a long summer break from most communications!

Songbird and family had a wonderful long holiday on the Kowhai Coast, based at Algies Bay, where most days were spent swimming, relaxing and cooking a range of wonderful new things out of the 'Free Range Cook' by Annabelle Langbein. I think we cooked about 40% of the recipies there and had we had access to all required ingredients we would have made more. Our highlights were the Chicken Skewers with Chermoula dipping sauce and the Sticky Date pudding with toffee sauce. Yummo.

This year I really am slowing down my market activity due to a change in day job and the need to balance my available time more towards my family. I fear they were a little neglected in the second half of last year.

The only 'real' New Years resolution I made this year was to stop biting my fingernails. A hideous habit I have had since I was 5. So good so far!!!

As my energy came back, I began the annual process of re-thinking Songbird and coming up with some fresh new ranges for you all. Some of the new items are shown below but a whole bunch are still waiting for their finishing touches.

I think you will see more co-ordination from Songbird Designs this year. I will be working on the concept of ranges to help structure and connect my products better.

This year will also bring you new packaging and new table displays.

Last but not least. Last year I promised a giveaway when I got to 200 likers on Facebook... it didn't happen as things got crazy and I just couldn't fit it in. I will run one soon and I will make it bigger and better than the original was to be to try and make up for it.

Thank you for all of your support of Songbird in 2010 and I hope you continue your support in 2011. I think it is going to be a big one.

I have just loaded a number of bobbi pin sets in my Felt store. These make great Christmas presents or will add something special to a Christmas season outfit.

This means that I have been making up a storm since my return from my Wellington Road Trip.

Craft 2.0 - What a day!

Craft 2.0 and the Wellington Road Trip were fantastic.

I met so many lovely people - stallholders and customers. Put faces to names, and caught up with some lovely crafty peeps I had met before.

The New Dowse is a lovely gallery and provides a great space for a fair. There were points of interest for everyone.

I had my lovely mother to help for the day and thank goodness as it was busy from the moment it opened to the minute it closed.

Songbird had a really successful day and it was a great kick-off to the Christmas season.

I was really tired when I got home but it was all worth it.

Sue and her team of organisers do a fantastic job at getting the fair going and getting the punters there. A big thanks to everyone involved.

As usual my camera action is nothing to write home about but I do at least have some photos - which is an achievement in itself.

Wellington Road Trip!

Songbird is heading out on a road trip first thing in the morning.

Cat Taylor and I are boarding a plane (early) and heading to our nation's capital for Craft 2.0.

I can't wait - this trip follows our first road trip to Christchurch earlier in the year for A Craft Affair. This time we are (sensibly) not trying to do it all in one day.

My lovely mother is coming to help so we can get a look around and take a toilet break!

I have the camera packed and will take as many photos as I can and post here on Monday.

No excuses for blog neglect other than VERY busy with life and Christmas Market preparation.

I have also had some large retail orders which has kept me busy. Feltaid also still continues - the store will be open till 31st October so lets get it as empty as we can.

This weekend marks the start of the Christmas Market schedule. I have listed (am listing on the right hand side of the blog) all of the markets I am going to over the next two months. I am a couple short on last years schedule so if you know of any that would be good for me, comment below or flick me an email!

This weekend is the last Crafternoon Tea. It is also Crafternoon Tea's first birthday! This market has been good to Songbird and I am sorry to see it go. All the best Luisa and thanks for all of your hard work and efforts on our behalf. Hope we can give you a good send off and birthday celebration this Saturday.

I have loads of new necklaces both Scrabble Tile and framed pendants, heaps of new earrings and clips plus Christmas Cards and Tags all available between now and Christmas. Make sure if you want to get some pieces for Christmas Presents, that you join my mailing list as I will be having list only specials offered to only mailing list members in the lead up to Christmas.

Its been a while

It has been a while since I blogged. I have been thinking about it a lot but have also been totally preoccupied with work, family and feltaid!

To say that working on feltaid has been rewarding is sort of an understatement. While it has been a lot of work and time, the outcome (so far) has well exceeded my expectations and really has showed how amazing the craft community is. People have contributed what they can - that has come in all shapes and sizes from items to time to promotion. Its awesome.

I have also been busy delivering 2 large retail orders. One to my friends at MIXT and the other to a new retailer - Acorns of Clevedon. This is a lovely shop. Diane the owner has lovely taste (if I do say so myself!) and the shop is filled with exquisite things,. If you are out that way, Acorns is a must stop!

Christmas is also coming. I have a few markets booked for October / November and December and I am busy planning and getting my stock levels up. I am planning on running the christmas season in a much more planned and organised way this year! Have I mentioned I am going to be a Craft 2.0 in October... mucho preparation to do!

To start that off, I have organised Eftpos for the season. It arrives this week and will be ready for the Devonport Craft Market next Sunday. The poster for DCM this month is below - a lovely design by Emma Walsh.

I am working my way through three weeks worth of blog posts on my blog reader....I haven't had a piece of time to check out the blogosphere.... My goal by the end of the weekend is to be up to date.

The world moved

And poor Christchurch bore the brunt of it. I have spent the week feeling like there was little I could do to provide relief for the people of Christchurch. Words from a far didn't seem to cut it.

When I saw a felt forum thread started by Amiana, it hit a note and I was in boots and all. Ana and I have teamed up (along with some lovely helpers and supported by Lucy from Felt) to bring you Felt.. like helping out.

This is a Felt store filled with donated goods (at least it will be once I get loading!) from lovely crafters across our wonderful country. All of the profits from this campaign will be provided to the Red Cross Appeal for Christchurch where we can play our part in providing some welfare relief, or perhaps a contribution to getting Christchurch up and running again.

Over the weekend we will add the donated products. It is a great time to start your Christmas shopping and to take part in this fundraising effort at the same time.

You want to do your bit, you can do your bit. We are accepting donations now.

A big softie and a little softie

Some of you may remember this post, where I had my first attempt at hand-making a softie for my unwell small-one. I ended up making another that next week for a friend who has had a baby girl. Even since then The Husband has been pestering me to buy him some felt so that he could have a go.

I finally got around to it and this is the result. I am more than impressed. He tells me not to get too excited and that this is probably the only softie he will make but I think I can twist his arm. He clearly has talent. Aside from the basic cat pattern which we got from Cat and Simple Softies, he designed the rest himself.

Needless to say, Bat Cat was a huge hit with the small-one. Nice one Dad!

You may have noticed a new feature I have added to my blog? I was lucky enough to win a subscription to Vendr (thanks Vendr- loving your work), an on-line store that pop's up in your own website. I am still loading products up on to the Vendr, hopefully the bulk of it will be done by the end of the weekend.

You can get to my Vendr store by clicking on to the 'Buy Online' tab at the top of the blog or buy clicking on the 'Buy Songbird Designs' button on the left hand side of the blog.

It means that you don't have to go anywhere else to buy Songbird Products. You can pay via paypal or by bank deposit (NZ only).

This doesn't mean that you can't buy from me via my trusty Felt store - I love Felt and will be maintaining my store the same as always.

You will also notice a sign up button - this is for you to go on to my mailing list. I don't intend on creating a newsletter as such, but I will use this mailing list for specials and promoting new products.

A Little Softie

First things first. I can't sew - I mean really i CAN'T sew. I would love to be able to but I was not gifted with that gene. In saying that, I was inspired by something Cat was making at the market on Sunday and I was desperate to give it a go. And here he is and I am feeling very chuffed with myself.

Now he is not perfect (don't look too close at the photograph) and I have LOADS to learn but I think he is a pretty good effort for a first time try. Thanks to Jenny for the trims as well!

It has been really good timing as the child has been ill this week. Really unhappy ill. So I have just finished his "get well soon" gift and I am looking forward to him waking up so that I can give it to him... well actually I am looking forward to giving it to him - I won't mind if he sleeps a little longer :-).

I have now contracted the same illness as the little one - I knew I should have resisted those germy kisses.....

I am going to give this pattern another try before i look for the next one to do - let me know if you know of any 'beginner' tutorials for felt softies that I could try next!

You can set up your own inspiration board or pin to ones others have created. When you are lacking inspiration it really gives you a boost. It is also a really good way to 'bookmark' beautiful images you don't want to lose track of AND you can find new blogs and other sources of inspiration from it. Fab don't you think?

In a little suburb in Tauranga in the lovley Bay of Plenty. A wee gem of a store has opened.
Owned by Sharon Blaike who previously ran the Red Moki Gallery. Sharon is an artist and local art and craft promoter and Songbird Designs are lucky enough to have been spotted by Sharon! Some of our Button Rings are winging their way to Flax Gallery and Gifts as we speak and will soon take up residence (not for long we hope!!) in the gallery.

A Craft Affair Road Trip - Executive Summary

Well. It was awesome. Christchurch sure knows how to craft and shop! They put on a pretty good fair.

Our day (our= Cat and myself) started very early. A 3.30am wake up call. Really. But we were pretty excited so it made it worthwhile.

A very fast plan ride down, we hit Cafe Roma for breakfast and much needed coffee. I would recommend a breakfast stop there (thanks Emma and Rose for heading us in that direction). A mere 50m walk from the Cafe and we were at our stop. Our City O Tautahi. What a lovely venue. Very beautiful on the outside and exquisite on the inside.

We had spots upstairs in the hall. Down one end (check out the crowd shot below) was a beautiful stained glass window which made the hall radiate with a soft light. Perfect.

We unpacked and started to set up and before we knew it it was 10.20 - time for shopping, swapping and looking around. I got really excited then - there was so much to take in I had a quick look and thought.. I'll go back later and get a few things. (insert Tui beer advert here).

The two minute call from Lucy came and we were OFF. It was like a tidal wave of people turned up at our tables. Scary stuff when you weren't expecting it. I had 4 deep of people in front of my stall. I am sure I had a fixed and slightly manic smile on my face for the first hour. Actually the whole day probably as the crowds and the people kept coming and coming.

And they were so nice and so supportive. There was a great feeling in the room throughout the day. I can only speak for the room as I had not one moment where I was able to get away from my table!

I can safely say that this was one of the best markets / fairs I have ever been to as a seller or as a buyer. Lucy from Felt puts on a damn fine event. THANK YOU Lucy and your team for all your hard work. It was much appreciated.

The end of the day came. I looked up and everyone was gone. So much for me getting to buy those things later. Beginners mistake me thinks!

The day would have been perfect if it wasn't for our plane getting a sore paw and having to have its tires changed (one by one) delaying our departure. Christchurch, it wasn't that we were desperate to get away from you, its just that it was a long and energy filled day and by then, we had run out of steam and needed bed.

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks. Think Tazmanian Devil or whirling dervish and you will understand how I have been - at least how I have been feeling. I have also been battling an eye infection which - altho not supposed to - has made me feel tired and unwell at the same time. But enough of the 'poor me' stuff....

We had a wonderful day at the Devonport Craft Market on Sunday. It was so busy and there were some great new sellers to meet as well as new and very supportive customers.
It was great that it was busy and I hate to even hint at a complaint but it has meant a reasonable amount of replenishing my stock for A Craft Affair this weekend.

I am SO excited to be heading to Christchurch. I am looking forward to meeting loads of other NZ crafters and also eyeballing their products in real life. I have a feeling a few new bits and pieces will be heading home with me.

I have also had to do some emergency preperations as I realised (yesterday) after reading the fine print on my plane tickets. They read "No fragile items to be included in your carry on luggage". For those of you who have seen how I display my table at markets, you will see my issue. My table is made up of vintage, cut glass bowls of varying sizes, styles etc. I had planned to wrap them up with bubble wrap (in fact I had already done this to make sure I could fit all I needed to in my bag) and take them on the plane with me.. sorted.

But now I am having major second thoughts about the wisdom of this. 1) I don't want any of them to break and 2) I don't want to have them 'removed' at the airport and be stuck with nothing...

SO, I have been on the hunt for suitable replacements. I have a few bits and pieces and will be trying them all out this evening so that I can finish packing and planning tomorrow in time for the VERY EARLY airport pick up.

I also returned to full time work this week. That has certainly made a dent in my available crafting time........ Enough said.

To add to the madness of me... I have created a bunch of new necklaces this week. Similar to my scrabble tile necklaces but different. They will be coming out for their debut on Sunday.

So, That is where I am at. Manic in a word.

Things are busy in the land of Songbird. I have had a few days off work so I have spent the time getting ready for the next Devonport Craft Market (4th July) and also A Craft Affair (11th July).

I have some new earrings for sale and some really cool products to be launched in Christchurch. I have also been developing new packaging for my necklaces and dangle earrings PLUS I have been sanding and painting some new table features.

Meet Geninne - Water- colour artist

I have recently come across the work of water colour artist, Geninne, a American living in Mexico. I love her use of colour. bright and subtle at the same time.

I also love, of course, her subject matter. Birds.

Songbird Designs has another retailer - YAY!

The second retailer is the lovely Ecostore Retail Shop in Freemans Bay, Auckland. Across the road from the New World.

I have been a fan of the Ecostore products for a long time but most especially since the Child came into our lives. I then became much more conscious of the sorts of products I was using and wanting to minimise our usage of harsh chemicals. Both for the planet and for ourselves.

The opportunity to stock some Songbird Products in this store, is just amazing and I am so grateful. The majority of the products that will be stocked fall under a new banner of "Encore by Songbird Designs".

These products are made using recycled products (thanks to all those who donate!). Gradually all Songbird Paper Goods will transition to recycled paper and will utilise sustainable consumables and processes. I am really excited to make this transition.

1. A Craft Affair - I am so excited to be heading to Christchurch to have a stall at A Craft Affair (formerly Craft 2.0). So much Craft Action happens in Christchurch and I am keen to meet some of the lovely CHC based crafters - in real life - and see all of their wonderful products. I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity! But... where do I start with getting ready??

2. Anything from The Great Collective Dairy - Especially the Black Plum and Apple Crumble Yoghurt but the skinny cottage is also up there... Actually ALL OF IT - GO BUY SOME NOW!

3. Alicia Keys - The Element of Freedom. This is on HIGH Rotate. Man that woman can sing and write songs. Brilliant.

4. The wonderful illustrations and blog of Tabitha Emma. The one below titled

"I don't know you". This is one to check out.

5. The weather today. After a week of sickness for the whole household, it has been lovely to enjoy the fine and sunny weather with some homemade scones.

Encore

Let me introduce you to Encore. Encore is a new part of the Songbird Designs family. The recycled part.

I have gathered up all sorts of pieces from all sorts of places and lately I have been gifted loads of yummy fabric scraps from lovely crafty friends. After finally getting it altogether, Encore was born.

All of the items that are branded with the Encore by Songbird Designs brand have recycled materials in them or will be made using a sustainable process and recycled paper (for the paper goods). Not all of the components of the product in Encore by Songbird Designs will be recycled. Thats cause it won't be possible. You would buy a hair tie from me using a recycled hair band?? Would you? (if you would let me know and I will see what I can do).

Encore made its Unbranded debut at Crafternoon Tea last weekend and proved to be popular so its making its second round of debuts - branded this time - at the Royal Oak Market this Sunday and with any luck, in my Felt store later on today.

There are only a small number of products in the Encore range but it will grow as time allows me to develop them.

This is a full market month for Songbird Designs. I 'promised' myself, The Husband and The Child that this year I would minimise the number of markets I did before Christmas - That's clearly working out well for me....

This weekend I am excited to be at the Royal Oak: Susataible Communities Market - hosted by CCS Disabiilty Action.

I was a stallholder at the Pre-Christmas market and had a lovely time. The food, the crafts, the environment was really lovely.

I can't find the programme but alongside the Art & Craft and food stalls, there are usually talks on seasonal planting with tips and tricks. A whole 'experience'.

So I've been really struggling to find some time to get my brain to a place where I can be creative and appreciate all of the lovely things that I have been seeing around the blogosphere. It is a little frustrating as I am sure you will understand.

The good news is that I am slowly getting my act together on a couple of new ideas I have had. Its good to keep things fresh I think. Watch this space as these ideas come to life!

Yesterday was Mothers Day. I was treated to a sleep in - a little one! We had lunch as a picnic at the park with the family. It was really windy and a little fresh but it was great. W tired himself out but playing on the slides and swings. That made my mothers day really - seeing how capable and how much fun he has. Bless.

Then the afternoon was spent watching "The Proposal", a Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds RomCom. I didn't have high expectations of it but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Ryan Reynolds and his character - YUM.

To top off the day, I somehow built the motivation to clean up and de-clutter my creative space. This has been the year in the preparation, mental preparation but I am pleased to say that I am nearly there. HOW DID IT GET SO BAD......

Anyway now I can look at the space and think about all the possibilities.. instead of thinking about how big a job it will be to clean it up.....

Its Friday.. Where did the week go?

I have had the busiest week ever. All work stuff but some exciting stuff too..I have a new retailer so I have been working hard on delivering a large order for them... I will spill all details over the next few days!

This weekend is the 1st Birthday of The Devonport Craft Market. I am really proud of the work that Sarah and I do to bring sellers and shoppers together in a relaxed environment. The market philosophy is that there is 'something for everyone' and I think that we have stayed true to that, and that our supportive community would agree with that.

Now I wasn't there in the beginning as a seller or as an organiser. My first market was in June last year and then August Sarah asked me to help. I was only too happy to oblige. We are a great team! Big props to Sarah for her vision and for sticking to that vision. Check out our Meet the Seller featuring Cotton Kiwi this month on the Devonport Craft Market Blog.

Busy weekend

Hope you have all been having a lovely weekend. I noticed the winter chill this weekend, properly. The heater came out and so did the socks!

I have had a busy weekend. Cat and I had a calligraphy lesson by the lovely Emma from Bella Calligraphy and I have been practicing my little heart out since then. Calligraphy, I have discovered, is very meditative and therapeutic. It reminds me to slow down and take my time. Patience, i think it is called.

I also held a 'photo shoot', if I could be so bold as to call it that, this morning. My Felt store is now loaded up with goodies. Things I have been meaning to load for an age. Now it is done. Check out some of the images below. I am not really a photographers big toe but I took some advice of this post from Helene at Ruby in the Dust and i think they worked out ok.

This week brings a trip to Mixt to drop off some cards, work, craft social and a morning with old friends catching up. I am looking forward to it.

Hopefully I will drop in some posting of some of the inspiring things I have been finding around the interweb.

One. You may have seen my 'introduction' post - and you probably thought it was a bit weird that I was introducing myself... well it was all in the name of Lovely Blogging.... I am now officially a Lovely Blogger! YAY. Thanks to Rachel over at Lovely Clusters who has put together a list of Lovely Bloggers. The introduction was in the name of that! Check it out. There are some great blogs to add to your list of daily reads to be found there.

Two. The lovely Erin of Erin Carver commented me yesterday to pass on a Beautiful Blogger Award. OK Now my head is getting really big. So exciting, right?
Part of the deal with the Beautiful Blogger award is for me to tell you 7 things about me - some you may know, some you may not know. So here goes:

1. If there is Singstar around - you had better be holding on tight to your microphone...... I say no more.
2. I am a mad cat lover and like Erin, can see myself having been a crazy cat lady in a former life
3. I am Auckland born and bred. There really aren't many of us... well I don't come across many. In fact my work office is about 10m from the maternity suites where I was born. Thats random.
4. My surname (before marriage) was the name of a bird. See 1. and add bird and that is how I came up with Songbird Designs.
5. This one is a little embarrassing. I am addicted to reality TV - GOOD reality TV (Survivor, AI, The Amazing Race, Project Runway, ANTM etc). Yes I know.
6. I follow Formula 1. The Husbands fault. I am now hooked.
7. I can't stop. There is always something new to do. Well I can stop, when F1 is on and any reality TV programme.....

So now you know a little more about me. Deep dark secrets. Hope I haven't scared you off.

I still haven't gotten to my 'things to blog about list'.

It's been a while - sorry folks. I was busy organising Songbird for the market - oh and there was the market organisation as well, plus a busy week at the job and a fantastic night out seeing James Taylor and Carole King. But I'm back.

A list of things:
First. A big THANK YOU to Emma from Freedom Creative. I was the very lucky winner of her "200th Felt sale" giveaway. The prize was a $40 voucher for product from Freedom Creative and a Frankie Magazine. The $40 voucher was used immediately to purchase gifts for the Mother-in-law and also for the Husband's cousin. Perfect timing! The Frankie magazine stayed within Chez Songbird as the whole family are fans and our mits were staying firmly upon it.

Three: The Devonport Craft Market was on last Sunday. It was moved to the second Sunday of the month due to Easter falling on the first. It was a REALLY nice day. There were some new crafters to meet and some old ones (not in age!) to say Hello again too. It had a nice vibe.
I purchased - a lovely tatted 'necklace' from AW Designs and some lip balm and moisturiser from Pure Extracts. Nice. There was heaps of other things I could have purchsed (and probably will do at some stage - my will power is not that great) but I restrained myself.

Four: Some Songbird Designs gift tags were part of the Blendy Yarn Sampler box, for the second time! Yay. These went on sale on Saturday. I think there may be a couple left. If they are, you can purchase them from Felt or Etsy. This time there is a mini box as well as the standard sized sampler box.

There are so many other things on my 'must blog' list. I will work through them and flick up some posts over the next few days.
